Our "March of Inspiring Mums" interview series celebrates women who are doing some amazing things, whether through business, a campaign or just being fabulous!
Today we are featuring the lovely Vicki Smith who lives in Kent with her three children (aged 5, 3 and 1). She is also the founder and owner of For the Love of Mum – an online store for Mums and Mums-to-be.
1. Tell me a little about yourself and how you got into the job you’re now doing?
Hello! My name is Vicki; wife to Chris and Mama to three gorgeous kids. I always felt marriage and motherhood shouldn’t and wouldn’t define me. But becoming parents changed almost every part of life as we knew it! We moved out of London when my eldest was 10 months old and in the blink of an eye, we were living in the countryside, I’d given up the rat race of a career in finance and I was a full time Mama and carer to three gorgeous but totally demanding little people!
I founded For the Love of Mum soon after our youngest was born. I wanted to curate a store full of practical, useful parenting products. But I wanted them to be stylish; to reflect the people we used to be, pre-baby; to make us feel more like ourselves again. And so FTLoM was born – selling products I’ve used and loved, that have also reminded me of who I used to be.
Tell me one interesting fact about you?
Hmmmmm ….. I might just be the most boring person you’ve ever met. I cant think of anything – I’ll blame sleep deprivation for destroying my memory of all the interesting facts about me!
Please can you share 3 tips for managing the juggle of motherhood, life and business?
1. Stay calm.
2. Try to roll at their pace – don’t rush too much.
3. Be passionate about what you do and stay in control of your time – chose when and how you work.
What’s the best piece of advice you could give a new mum?
Believe in yourself – you’re the best person for the job!!
Colour can make a real difference to our mood - what’s your favourite colour? And how does it make you feel when you wear it?
Coral – I totally love it. It makes me stand tall and smile!
What’s your favourite activity to do with your children?
Bedtime stories. It’s the only guaranteed moment of peace and calm all day. There are no distractions. Nothing to do. We just cuddle up together on the bed and the eldest two chose one book each. I love feeling them so close to me.
What do you like to do for some me-time?
Ha! The kids are so young - I don’t feel like there is much downtime at the moment! I look after them all day and log on to the laptop to work after bedtime. I sometimes manage to sneak off for a mid-afternoon bath on the weekend – a little moment to escape and relax!
Thanks Vicki for telling us a little more about you and your business - we totally share your ethos that mums can find ways to stay stylish and still feel like themselves despite having little ones to look after!
